More about this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Prepare for CIPS Commercial Negotiation (L4M5) through 360 original practice questions organised into four focused tests and two mixed mocks. The questions train you to connect commercial objectives, cost evidence, supplier alternatives and communication choices to an acceptable, workable agreement.

Build the decision skills

The first test develops your understanding of negotiation approaches, conflict, stakeholder influence, power and supplier relationships. The second examines direct and indirect costs, fixed and variable behaviour, contribution, break-even analysis, costing methods, margins, markups and pricing. It also asks you to interpret market structure, demand, supply and macroeconomic changes under clearly stated conditions.

The third test focuses on preparation: distinguish targets from limits, evaluate executable BATNAs, assess the zone of possible agreement, compare complete packages and arrange appropriate people, venues and forums. The fourth covers negotiation stages, persuasion, tactics, questions, active listening, push and pull communication, non-verbal signals, cultural awareness, emotional intelligence and reflection.

Practise, review and apply

Each question includes an explanation of the answer, feedback on every option and a focused study prompt. Numerical items show the calculation basis. Scenario items explain how authority, timing, confidentiality, capacity or risk changes the decision. Use these explanations to understand the rule and then test how a different condition would affect your choice.

Complete the focused tests first, revisit weak areas, then attempt each mixed mock before reading its feedback. The mocks contain 60 questions with a 90-minute allowance and a 70% practice threshold, matching those published CIPS OR exam parameters. Their topic proportions and question-type mix are author-designed; they do not reproduce every interaction in the official exam software. The focused tests use the same time and threshold as study settings.

Know the scope

The course follows the L4M5 learning outcomes in the official syllabus linked by CIPS when checked in October 2026. That document is labelled 2018 Syllabus, Version 2. Use this practice alongside your CIPS learning materials and current exam guidance. This is an independent practice course, not an official CIPS product or an endorsement by CIPS. It contains no claimed real exam questions and makes no guarantee of an exam result.
