  • Trace JavaScript values, conversions and scope without confusing strings, numbers, null and undefined.
  • Predict branches, loop boundaries, array mutations and shared-object changes in short programs.
  • Distinguish calls from function values and follow returns, recursion, arrows and callback timing.
  • Identify error phases and types, follow exception paths and choose useful debugger observations.
  • Review JSE-40-01 objectives with four focused tests and two 30-question, 40-minute mocks.

More about this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Can you predict a short JavaScript program's result before running it? This practice course helps you work through the value, type, scope and execution-order decisions covered by JSE-40-01, the JS Institute entry-level JavaScript certification.

330 independently authored questions in six tests give you a structured route from focused revision to timed practice. Every question includes an explanation for each option, an overall explanation and a next-step review prompt. Questions combine foundational recognition with code tracing, boundary cases, debugging choices and repairs.

Start with four focused tests

  • Basics and data — 81 questions: script environments, variables, primitive types, casting, strings, records and arrays.
  • Operators and control flow — 99 questions: arithmetic and comparison, browser dialogs, if/switch decisions and loop behavior.
  • Functions — 54 questions: calls and returns, parameter scope, first-class functions, recursion, callbacks, timers and arrows.
  • Errors and debugging — 36 questions: error classification, exceptions, handling paths and useful runtime observations.

The focused tests use generous author-set time allowances so you can trace code carefully. Pay attention to why a plausible wrong answer fails: a string is not always a number, a function call is not a function value, and a legal expression can still implement the wrong algorithm.

Then take two timed mocks

Each mock contains 30 questions with a 40-minute allowance, including single-select and multiple-select questions. Both cover all 30 published objectives with the six-block item distribution of 3/6/5/6/6/4. Their examples change the deciding conditions, including shared references, skipped branches, callback timing and the first failing operation.

The tests use a 70% practice line. Udemy practice results treat questions equally; the official exam uses its own item scoring and block weights. A practice percentage is therefore a revision signal, not an official score conversion or a promise of passing.

Make each attempt useful

First answer without running the snippets. Review the option feedback, then rerun suitable examples in a fresh environment and change one boundary input. Revisit missed concepts before taking the other mock. This course is intended to complement your JavaScript study, with practice questions rather than video lessons.

The scope is JSE-40-01 JavaScript fundamentals. Advanced frameworks, application deployment and the separate JSA certification are outside this course. These are original practice questions, not official or recalled exam items. BrightRung Learning is an independent provider and is not affiliated with or endorsed by JS Institute or OpenEDG.

A page computes an estimate in the visitor's browser. Where does this calculation execute?

Before you begin

  • Basic exposure to JavaScript syntax; this practice course complements introductory study.
  • Ability to read English explanations and short code snippets.
  • A modern browser console or JavaScript runtime is optional for rerunning examples after an attempt.

Who this is for

  • Learners preparing for the JS Institute JSE-40-01 entry-level JavaScript exam.
  • Beginners who can read simple scripts and want practice with types, scope, loops and functions.
  • Learners who want to understand wrong answers and diagnose short-code mistakes before timed practice.
