  • Evaluate automation objectives, limitations and lifecycle costs against a concrete testing need.
  • Select controllable and observable SUT interfaces, representative environments and suitable tools.
  • Choose architecture boundaries, automation approaches and reusable design patterns.
  • Evaluate pilot evidence, deployment risks, resource capacity and maintainability choices.
  • Place automation in CI/CD pipelines and maintain consistent release and configuration evidence.
  • Collect and correlate execution evidence, interpret results and report relevant risk.
  • Verify automation components, test oracles and suite reliability, then prioritize improvements.
  • Practise the 29 v2.0 learning objectives in two mocks with the official question and cognitive-level allocation.

More about this course

An automation solution can run successfully and still provide weak evidence. Choosing suitable interfaces, controlling test data, separating reusable code from business rules, and diagnosing failures require more than remembering terminology. This course helps you practise those decisions through original questions aligned with the ISTQB Certified Tester Advanced Level Test Automation Engineering syllabus v2.0.

Work through 300 English questions in six practice tests. Four topic sets develop your understanding before two timed mocks combine the syllabus objectives:

  • 51 questions: automation scope, infrastructure and tool evaluation.
  • 70 questions: architecture, pilot risks and maintainability.
  • 55 questions: pipeline placement, evidence and reporting.
  • 44 questions: verification, diagnosis and continuous improvement.
  • Mock 1, 40 questions in 90 minutes: constrained deployment decisions.
  • Mock 2, 40 questions in 90 minutes: change impact and evidence decisions.

The questions cover all eight syllabus chapters, from automation objectives and testability to architecture, implementation, CI/CD integration, reporting, solution verification and continuous improvement. Topic practice includes foundation checks as well as application and analysis tasks. Each mock follows the official allocation across all 29 learning objectives, with 20 K2, 14 K3 and 6 K4 questions.

Understand the decision behind each answer

Every question includes an explanation of the correct answer, feedback for each alternative, and a focused study tip. Scenarios ask you to compare workable approaches against requirements: interface access and timing resolution, worker capacity and licensing, pipeline gates, evidence correlation, oracle quality, change impact and maintenance priorities. Explicit assumptions support the calculation questions; no tool installation is needed to answer them.

Use the sets as a learning sequence

Start with the four topic sets and review the reasons for your choices. Return to the relevant syllabus topic when an explanation reveals a gap. Then attempt Mock 1 without consulting the explanations, remediate your weakest areas, and use Mock 2 for a fresh timed attempt. Repeated scores are most useful when you can explain the decision rather than recall an option.

Exam and course boundaries

The official exam has 40 questions, 90 minutes, 66 available points and a pass mark of 43 points. Eligible candidates taking an exam in a non-native language may receive 113 minutes. These practice tests use equal-weight scoring and a 75% study target; that target is not the official weighted pass mark or a score conversion. Check your examination provider's current eligibility and booking conditions.

This is independent practice material, not an official ISTQB course, official sample-question collection or reproduction of real examination questions. It does not guarantee certification or replace practical engineering experience. AI assisted the creation of the original questions and explanations; the cover background is AI generated. The course uses the current v2.0 scope, not the retired 2016 syllabus or the separate Test Automation Strategy certification.
