More about this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Prepare for LPI Security Essentials 020-100, exam version 1.0, by practicing decisions you can explain. These original questions focus on protecting everyday devices, accounts, communications, and personal information. You will work through the difference between a protection's intended benefit and what it cannot guarantee.

Six tests with a clear purpose

  • Security Foundations and Cryptography: 70 questions on security goals, risk, ethical behavior, keys, certificates, and web, email, and storage encryption.
  • Devices, Software, Malware and Recovery: 70 questions on hardware, trustworthy applications, malicious behavior, backups, and cloud file availability.
  • Networks, Internet Safety and Anonymity: 70 questions on network roles, protocols, cloud models, WiFi, filtering, VPNs, Tor, and identification.
  • Accounts, Communication and Personal Privacy: 70 questions on passwords, MFA, recovery, phishing, safe sharing, tracking, and personal-data rights.
  • Comprehensive Mock 1: 40 mixed questions with a 60-minute time limit.
  • Comprehensive Mock 2: another 40 mixed questions with different decision conditions and a 60-minute time limit.

The four topic tests use an author-defined 105-minute allowance. You can approach them in smaller study sessions. The two mocks match the official exam's published question count and duration. Their objective allocation follows the published weights as a course design choice; actual exam forms need not have identical counts per objective.

Learn from each decision

All 360 questions are single-select, with four options. Every option has feedback, and each question includes an overall explanation and a focused study prompt. Scenarios ask you to distinguish working controls from nearby alternatives: a recovery key from a data backup, link encryption from end-to-end protection, a trusted certificate from a trustworthy merchant, or an access right from a portability right.

The course covers all 17 objectives at an introductory level. It assumes basic familiarity with computers, browsers, and email. It is a practice resource for use alongside your learning materials, rather than a complete video course or a hands-on laboratory.

Use the results to guide study

Answer before reading feedback, note which condition you missed, then revisit the relevant topic. Complete the timed mocks after the topic practice. An 80% practice target is an author-defined checkpoint, with no conversion to LPI's official scoring and no guarantee of passing.

This is an independent practice course. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by LPI, and it does not contain actual exam questions. LPI Security Essentials is the exam being prepared for; this course does not award the LPI certificate.
