  • Diagnose CPU, memory, disk and network bottlenecks from measurements rather than isolated indicators.
  • Distinguish kernel images, build configuration, modules, runtime parameters and early-boot requirements.
  • Manage systemd and SysV startup behavior and identify the failing stage in BIOS or UEFI recovery.
  • Choose filesystem, automount, RAID, LVM and iSCSI operations with the right scope and prerequisites.
  • Trace routing, transport, resolver and persistent network configuration problems.
  • Assess source-build steps, backup recovery evidence and maintenance notifications.
  • Practise two 60-question mocks with the official objective allocation and 90-minute time limit.

More about this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Linux administration questions often become difficult when several commands look useful but operate at different layers. A mounted filesystem can be healthy while its storage is failing; a service can be running while disabled; and an installed module can still be unavailable during early boot. This course helps you practise making the next decision from the evidence in the question.

The 360 original practice questions focus on LPIC-2 Exam 201, code 201-450, objectives version 4.5. They cover capacity planning, kernel components and builds, system startup and recovery, filesystems, advanced storage, networking, and maintenance. Exam 202 server-service objectives are outside this course. The official scope was checked on October 10, 2026; older technologies remain where the published objectives require them, with relevant legacy context stated in the questions.

Six tests with distinct uses

  • Test 1: Capacity planning and Linux kernels — 60 questions.
  • Test 2: Startup, recovery and filesystem operation — 60 questions.
  • Test 3: Filesystem maintenance and advanced storage — 60 questions.
  • Test 4: Networking and system maintenance — 60 questions.
  • Tests 5 and 6: Two separate, mixed-topic mocks — 60 questions and 90 minutes each, with every objective allocated according to LPI's published weights.

Each question includes an overall explanation, feedback for every option, and a focused study tip. Scenarios distinguish runtime state from persistent configuration, safe recovery from destructive shortcuts, and measurements from conclusions that the evidence cannot support. You will also practise commands, configuration fragments, storage arithmetic, and the limits of diagnostic tools.

How to use the tests

Start with the four topic tests and read the feedback even when your answer is correct. Revisit the specific command or concept behind a mistake, then attempt a mock without consulting notes. Use the 80% practice target to guide further revision. This is an author-defined target, not LPI's official passing percentage: LPI uses a scaled score, so a practice percentage cannot be converted into an official exam result.

These tests use single-answer and multiple-answer selection questions. The real exam also includes fill-in-the-blank questions, which this format does not reproduce. Use command-line exercises alongside the tests rather than relying only on recognition of options.

This is independent preparation material and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Linux Professional Institute. It contains original scenarios, not recalled live exam questions. Earning LPIC-2 requires an active LPIC-1 certification and passing both Exams 201 and 202. Taking this course alone does not meet those requirements or guarantee an exam pass.

AI was used to draft and revise questions, explanations, and the background illustration. The course should be combined with the official objectives, relevant manuals, and hands-on study.

An eight-core host has vmstat r=24, us=88, sy=10, id=2 and wa=0 across five intervals. What should be investigated first?

Before you begin

  • Familiarity with Linux command-line administration at roughly LPIC-1 level.
  • An understanding of files, permissions, processes and basic TCP/IP networking.
  • Access to a disposable Linux lab is recommended for additional command-line practice; avoid practising destructive storage commands on important data.

Who this is for

  • Linux administrators preparing specifically for LPIC-2 Exam 201 (201-450).
  • Learners who want structured practice after studying the version 4.5 objectives.
  • Administrators reviewing boot recovery, storage operations and network troubleshooting decisions.
