  • Compare programme procurement routes using design, appointment, operation and interface responsibilities.
  • Distinguish standard-form purposes, contractual schedules and pricing mechanisms, including target-cost sharing and eligible reimbursable costs.
  • Calculate and interpret payback, ARR, discounted cash flow, NPV and IRR under explicit assumptions.
  • Use budgets, forecasts, dependencies and change evidence to select proportionate programme-control actions.
  • Apply stated loss, remedy, notice and acceptance conditions without confusing monetary limits with performance duties.
  • Evaluate operational readiness, residual obligations, knowledge transfer and post-closure benefits ownership.
  • Diagnose organisational and national culture from observed evidence and select interventions for the actual barrier.

More about this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Knowing a contract label or appraisal formula is only the start. In CIPS Strategic Programme Leadership (L6M5), you also need to identify retained responsibilities, select a defensible cost-control response and understand how culture affects programme delivery. These 336 original practice questions help you apply those distinctions to stated facts, rather than rely on a familiar keyword.

Build skills, then connect the decisions

Four topic tests let you concentrate on one area at a time:

  • Contracting, Pricing and Strategic Cost — 60 questions: procurement routes, standard forms, pricing mechanisms, value engineering, consortium purchasing and open-book evidence.
  • Appraisal and Programme Control — 60 questions: payback, ARR, discounting, NPV, IRR, budgets, tracking, variations and recovery decisions.
  • Remedies, Handover and Learning — 60 questions: loss and damages under stated assumptions, warranties, performance and termination, acceptance, operational handover, audit and learning.
  • Organisational and National Culture — 36 questions: Schein, the cultural web, Handy, observed cultural differences and interventions for different causes of resistance.

Two 60-question comprehensive tests, each set to 90 minutes, combine the areas. Each begins with 35 standalone responses, followed by two ten-response case blocks and one five-response case block. Case facts are repeated so that each response can be understood independently.

Learn from each decision

Every question includes an overall explanation, feedback for each option and a focused study tip. Calculations specify timing, cost eligibility and the required denominator; contract scenarios state the assumptions needed to judge the remedy. Culture cases use observed behaviour and avoid treating national tendencies as rules for every individual.

Complete the topic tests in manageable sessions, noting the condition you missed rather than just the correct answer. The three 60-question topic tests allow 90 minutes each; the culture test allows 60 minutes. Then attempt the comprehensive tests without referring to the explanations. Review mistakes by asking which scope, authority, timing, measurement or incentive condition changes the conclusion.

Scope and assessment format

The questions follow the L6M5 indicative content in the currently linked February 2026 CIPS Professional Diploma syllabus guide, internally labelled 2018 Syllabus | Version 2, and the 2026 qualification specification. They cover contracting, programme control and organisational and national culture.

The official assessment is a 90-minute closed-book Objective Response exam with a 70% pass requirement. Its published structure totals 60 marks: 35 one-mark objective items, two ten-mark short scenarios and one five-mark scenario. Our comprehensive tests adapt that structure into single- and multiple-choice responses. They do not reproduce the official drag-and-drop interface or its marking. The course's 70% practice threshold is a revision guide, not a prediction of an official result.

This is an independent practice-test course. It is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by CIPS. It contains original exercises, not recalled or confidential exam questions. It provides practice and explanations, not a full taught syllabus or a guarantee of passing.
