Check the provider’s current objectives before booking your exam. This is independent practice material.

  • Explain module imports, package initialization, and standard-library input and output contracts.
  • Trace exception handlers, assertion messages, reraising, and finally cleanup.
  • Analyze Unicode text, encoded bytes, string slicing, classification, and searching.
  • Distinguish class state, instance state, saved methods, private names, and inheritance lookup.
  • Follow comprehension order, lambda results, shared closure bindings, and iterator consumption.
  • Diagnose file mode, cursor, lifetime, and bytearray buffer mistakes.
  • Practice two timed mixed exams and use option feedback to guide further study.

More about this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

Recognizing Python syntax is easier than explaining what a program actually does. A saved method may retain its original receiver, a string operation may return a new value, and a file read may leave part of a reused buffer unchanged. This practice course helps you work through those distinctions for the PCAP-31-03 Certified Associate in Python Programming exam.

You receive 440 original questions across six practice tests. Four focused sets contain 90 questions each; two mixed mock exams contain 40 questions each. Questions use single-select and multiple-select formats, including code tracing, error diagnosis, boundary cases, and choosing a repair that meets a stated requirement.

Start with focused practice

  • Modules, packages, and exceptions: reason about imports, standard-library contracts, search paths, exception ancestry, and cleanup.
  • Strings: distinguish characters from encoded bytes, trace slices and searches, and choose transformations that preserve required data.
  • Object-oriented programming: track class and instance state, method binding, private names, inheritance, and initialization.
  • Comprehensions, lambdas, closures, and I/O: follow evaluation order, retained bindings, stream positions, and buffer contents.

The focused sets have a 180-minute practice allowance so you can work in smaller study sessions. They are extended training sets, not full-length exam replicas.

Test your reasoning under time pressure

Each mixed mock provides 40 questions in 65 minutes, with 6 module/package questions, 5 exception questions, 8 string questions, 12 object-oriented questions, and 9 comprehension/lambda/closure/I/O questions. These counts follow the published PCAP-31-03 section item distribution. A 70% practice threshold is used; it does not reproduce the official weighted scoring system.

Every question includes an explanation of the correct reasoning, feedback for each option, and a study tip. For example, closure questions distinguish a retained variable from a default argument evaluated when a function is created. File questions distinguish buffer capacity from the number of newly read bytes. Use the feedback to explain the rule and test its boundary, rather than memorizing one output.

A practical review cycle

  1. Complete a focused set or a smaller group of questions.
  2. Review incorrect and uncertain answers, including why the alternatives fail.
  3. Run small examples in a disposable local Python environment and change one condition.
  4. Take a mixed mock without notes, then revisit the topics behind your errors.

The scope is PCAP-31-03 and Python 3. Code examples have been checked locally with CPython 3.12; questions state version-specific conditions where needed. The course contains practice tests, not video lessons, an exam voucher, or an interactive coding exam simulator.

This is independent exam preparation. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by OpenEDG or the Python Institute, does not contain official examination questions, and does not guarantee certification.

Before you begin

  • Basic Python 3 knowledge, including variables, conditionals, loops, functions, and common collections.
  • Familiarity with reading short Python code examples in English.
  • A local Python 3 environment is recommended for experimenting with examples; no paid cloud account is required.

Who this is for

  • Candidates preparing for the PCAP-31-03 Python Associate exam.
  • Python learners who know the basics and want more practice with modules, classes, and file handling.
  • Developers who want to diagnose subtle state, binding, text, and I/O mistakes.
