  • Distinguish local Git history from GitHub-hosted repositories and collaboration records.
  • Choose branches, commits, pull requests, and review steps for a given GitHub Flow situation.
  • Match repository files, templates, insights, issues, discussions, and notifications to a team's need.
  • Recognize the scope of Actions, Copilot, Codespaces, the GitHub web editor, and GitHub Projects.
  • Select access roles, account protection, visibility, branch rules, and enterprise controls from specific constraints.
  • Compare open-source contribution, Sponsors, Marketplace, forks, templates, and InnerSource decisions.
  • Practice timed seven-domain questions and review why each answer choice does or does not fit.
More about this course

This course contains the use of artificial intelligence.

GitHub Foundations questions often hinge on a practical boundary: what Git saves locally, what GitHub manages for a team, which review gate applies, and who can see or change a repository. These tests ask you to choose from that context rather than memorize a list of product names.

What is included

  • 420 original questions in six tests: four focused sets on Git and GitHub basics (90), repositories and collaboration (82), modern development and Projects (67), and security, administration, and community (81); plus two mixed-domain tests of 50 questions each.
  • Two timed mixed-domain exams: 100 minutes per 50-question test, following the seven domains of the January 2026 GH-900 study guide. The 80% course threshold is an author-set review target, not a conversion of Microsoft's scaled 700 score.
  • Feedback for every answer choice: see why a close alternative fails under the stated permissions, workflow stage, device, or visibility requirement, with links to GitHub or Microsoft documentation for further study.

Use the focused tests to find weak decisions, then take the mixed-domain tests without notes. For a missed question, name the condition that ruled out each tempting option and consider what would change the answer. Short local Git examples can be reproduced in an isolated repository; GitHub product or enterprise behavior is explained from documentation rather than a live account in this course.

Format boundary: Microsoft does not publish a fixed GH-900 question count. These selected-response practice tests are not official exam questions and do not reproduce every possible interactive exam task. This independent course is not sponsored or endorsed by Microsoft or GitHub.

A team changed a policy document in several commits. It now needs to see the version that was approved last week and restore only that document without discarding unrelated changes. What capability makes this possible?

Before you begin

  • Basic familiarity with files, browsers, and collaborative work is helpful; no professional developer experience is required.
  • Ability to read short English technical scenarios and GitHub documentation.
  • No paid GitHub account or live organization is required to answer the questions.

Who this is for

  • Candidates preparing for Exam GH-900: GitHub Foundations under the January 2026 skill outline.
  • Developers and non-developers who want structured practice with GitHub repositories and team workflows.
  • Learners who prefer scenario decisions and feedback on incorrect choices to answer-only quizzes.
